There was a time when a candidate would get Indian Foreign Service only if he ranked among the top ten. After the liberalisation in the 1990 it became easy to go abroad. Consequently, the craze of the service was reduced.
Indian Foreign Service is one of the most prestigious services in the country. The officers spend most of their lives posted in Indian embassies in foreign countries. There is not too much work pressure in this service and there is only a slight chance that you would stay in India. There are good possibilities of promotions. When the officers are posted in foreign countries they are paid allowances which put them in astrong financial position. The only problem these officers face is that of staying abroad. Still it is in demand.
